The mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a group of inherited lysosomal storage diseases where the DNA is mutated such that the genes needed to produce enzymes that break down glycosaminoglycans are altered. This causes a build-up of glycosaminoglycans which can severely harm a person. It is estimated that 1 in 25,000 babies born in the United States will have some form of the mucopolysaccharidosis.
